Faith to Action Network wishes to introduce Kenya Muslim Youth Alliance (KMYA).

The Kenya Muslim Youth Alliance (KMYA) is an independent not for profit national youth network founded in November 2002, with a mandate to empower young Muslims through constructive engagement and participation in nurturing democratic, healthy, peaceful and just societies for all. KMYA’s goals are accomplished through capacity-building, networking, dialogue, research and communication, health-related programs, information sharing and advocacy.

Since inception in 2002, KMYA has successfully implemented a number of community based programmes relevant to its mandate such as capacity-building program for Muslim youth leaders, establishment of grassroots leadership structures, founding the New Dawn bi-monthly newspaper, conducting civic education on democracy and nation-building processes, undertaking national level advocacy on the new constitution and carrying out activities that promote tolerance and peaceful interreligious and ethnic coexistence in the country.

KMYA appreciates the fact that Muslim youth in Kenya require specific programs that are designed for their special needs in order to facilitate acquisition of knowledge, skills and attitudes that would enable them cope with the demands of changing world without compromising their Islamic faith.

KMYA vision is to see the potential of the marginalized Muslim youth is nurtured, positively harnessed and transformed for positive contribution in the Kenyan society in line with Islamic values. And, it’s mission is to facilitate and promote access to resources through knowledge creation and dissemination; and nurturing progressive and value-driven leadership among marginalized Muslim youth.

Currently working with Faith to Action Network on implementing the Joint Initiative for Strategic Religious Action #JISRA programme which seeks to:

Promote freedom of religion or belief
Build Resilient and inclusive communities in which religious actors are sustainable advocates of FoRB and interfaith peace.
Have inclusive, open and constructive religious communities; Peaceful interaction between religious communities and Context- and religion-sensitive FoRB policies and practices.
