The Solutions for Supporting Healthy Adolescents and Rights Protection (SHARP) project aims to contribute to improved adolescents’ sexual and reproductive health and rights (ASRHR) in the Great Lakes region (Burundi, DRC, Kenya, Rwanda, Tanzania and Zambia).
Faith To Action is part of the consortium organization has been undertaking training workshops for faith leaders, journalists, and social media influencers from February to April. Our approach has been interactive and participatory workshops that utilize religious scholars and interfaith training Guides to empower faith leaders to be change-makers. For EAC countries, we have produced the EAC popular version of the EAC Sexual Reproductive Health Bill for Islam and Christian Faith Leaders.
In Kenya, the Sharp Meeting brought Faith leaders, civil society representatives from Mandera, Isiolo, and Mandera Counties as well as journalists and social media influencers. Under the SHARP programme, our partner in DRC- Cafco Rdc hosted the National Communication Workshop on adolescent and sexual reproductive health alongside the sensitization workshop for faith leaders. As a result of the intervention, the team from Congo Central met with the Minister for Human Rights Fabrice Puela. This is just one example of how we are translating capacity building into actual conversations with policymakers for change in policy in SRHR issues.
In Zambia, Tanzania, and Rwanda, the national workshops sensitized faith leaders on emerging challenges and how to address misconceptions, reduce resistance, and motivate faith ASRHR championship. F2A training guides on SRHR, teenage pregnancy, and GBV continue to be referenced with more partners and faith actors. Download the guides here »
As the SHARP programme gets to its 3rd year, Faith to Action Network is poised to cascade the impact of the training workshops across countries. We shall also build on the EAC-SADC legislative agenda to ensure that there is increasing learnings on how the SRHR legislative agenda will be strengthened.
